Zephyr Farm primarily grows for farmers markets and online platforms. We focus on growing the healthiest, tastiest vegetables without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Farmhand

Job Description

Zephyr Farm is filling several farmhand positions. It is possible to fill this need with multiple part-time farmhands. We are seeking enthusiastic and hardworking  individuals to be involved with all aspects of the farm.  Farmhands are the backbone of the farm. They see farm production throughout the season and become familiar with all farm operations. 

Positions are available now through September. Work hours April through June are 8am-12 and work hours July through September are 7am-1pm. We will be accepting applications until the positions have been filled. 

We have many different ages on the farm. Because these positions are mornings only they would be great for a stay at home person, a recent retiree, or someone who has another part time job. In saying that, you must be able to work outdoors in all weather, lift 35lbs repeatedly, be on your feet, be in the mud, be comfortable around animals and bugs and snakes etc. Showing up on time and the days you agree to work are essential. We work fast and hard. Keep in mind this is a farm business, not a backyard garden.

Responsibilities:

• Greenhouse seeding

• Some hoop house work, planting, trellising and harvesting 

• Harvesting, washing and packing vegetables

• Irrigation set up 

• Cultivation and weeding

• Transplanting

• Chicken chores (feeding and moving chickens and collecting, washing, sorting eggs) 

• Occasional Farmers Market coverage

Qualifications

• Must be able to work in all weather conditions 

• Ability to lift 35 lbs repeatedly 

• A positive, can-do attitude a must

• Ability to follow directions 

• Must be able and willing to work until the job is complete  

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail

• Must be able to work well with a team, and be willing to work alone at times

• Previous farm experience a plus but not necessary

• Drivers license and clean driving record required

Compensation

Pay is hourly and commensurates with experience ($14+/hr)plus produce for personal consumption .

Farmers Market Help

Job Description—DRIVER

2 positions available

6am -2pm every Sat from May 4-Oct 26

Zephyr Farm sells the majority of its produce and eggs at Hope St Farmers Market. Farmers Market Crew meets at the farm early mornings on Saturdays to load up the truck and finishes the day back at the farm to unload. For the right candidate, additional Friday hours may be available. You MUST be a morning person. We work all week to make it to the market on time! Must be available for every market. (I understand if you have something on a Saturday that you already planned for example, a wedding. We can work around that but more than 1 or 2 Saturdays off wont really work for us)

Responsibilities: 

• Meet at the farm at 6am to load truck with produce and eggs

• Drive box truck to market

• Set up all market equipment in a neat and timely manner

• Communicate with market managers and other market staff when necessary

• Maintain a tidy and appealing market tent, replenishing produce and assisting customers in the right direction

• Effectively checkout customers quickly and carefully

• Breakdown and load truck with all market equipment, produce bins and leftover produce

• Unload market equipment and produce at farm

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift 30lbs repeatedly

• Clean driving record

• Ability to drive small box truck safely (think small uhaul)

• Must be able to stand for long periods at a time

• Strong customer service skills

• Knowledge of vegetables and ability to communicate with customers

• Positive attitude!

Farm Workshare Job Description

Zephyr Farm is seeking individuals to work 4hr shifts at the same time, same day from May-Oct in exchange for $40 credit weekly through our website.  Work may include harvesting, transplanting, seeding, packing, washing, sorting vegetables, and chicken chores.  Seeking individuals with a positive, can-do enthusiasm with interest in working on a farm.

Must be able to commit from May through October, one day per week 8am-12. No previous experience necessary.

• Must be able to work standing for up to 4 hours

• Must be able to work in all weather

Market Workshare Job Description

Zephyr Farm is seeking individuals to work at the Hope St Farmers Market from June - October, 8am-noon. Workers will unload the truck, set up the stand, and checkout customers. Must be good with numbers, efficient, and friendly. It is helpful if the applicant is familiar with produce and can talk to customers about cooking it. Must be available for the majority of Saturdays! Compensation is $40 credit at the stand.

Jack/Jill of all Trades

Job Description

This position is what it says. In search of a part time worker to complete miscellaneous tasks around the farm including

• small building projects

• maintenance on farm equipment, trucks, buildings, etc

• fixing stuff

This is like a “personal assistant to the farmer” position. Must be able to see a problem and fix it with supplies on the farm. This person must have a “can do” attitude, enjoy a fast paced environment, and enjoy work in general. General farm work may be added to the position to create more hours if interested. Position could be good for someone newly retired and looking to get outdoors and put their knowledge to good use. $15-$17/hr depending on skills, plus veggies and eggs. Very flexible hours.

Tractor Operator

Job Description

Looking for someone with at least 3 years experience to perform tractor work. Work involves both a 25hp and 70hp tractor. It may involve laying black plastic, spreading fertilizer, and transplanting with workers riding on the back of the tractor. Must be comfortable with driving on the road as our farm is in 2 locations. Also must be comfortable driving small box trucks. $15-$17/hr plus veggies and eggs.
