Michele and Addy

Founder of Zephyr Farm

Michele has been working on farms since 1998. The former coordinator between Urban Edge Farm and Southside Community Land Trust, she founded Zephyr Farm in 2008. Through Michele's leadership and expertise, the farm provides seasonal vegetables, herbs and eggs to Rhode Islanders through farmer's markets, local curbside pickup, and wholesale accounts.

Our Crew

The Zephyr Farm crew is a dedicated team of workers who love working on the farm and at the market. We come from many different backgrounds and have a lot of really interesting conversations as we are working together to plant, harvest, clean, and pack Zephyr Farm produce. It’s a lot of work to bring this food through all the phases from seed to market stall, and from nestbox to egg carton, and these are only some of the folx who make it happen week after week.

Badger came to us via the RISPCA (RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). He was part of a special project to train young cats for working on farms and in barns, called the Working Cats Program. Badger sweeps through the greenhouse, hoop houses, and fields, keeping EVERYONE in line—the workers, the dogs, the chickens, and the “unofficial” animals of the farm like mice, voles, and moles. You might see him chasing butterflies in the field, playfully frolicking through rows of Remay rowcover, tracking runaway chickens, and relaxing in the shade. Now and then, he will approach a farmer for a little head scratch, and he enjoys hanging out wherever we are working.

Kirby

Kirby has been working on Zephyr Farm since 2022. When she arrived, she was just a fuzzy little baby pup, and she has grown up with Addy and Charlie as her role models. Kirby wants to be wherever the action is. She loves riding in the gator, herding chickens, and hanging out with Sebby. Kirby always wants to help out and be included. Her favorite crops are carrots, sweet peppers, and green beans.

Sebby

Sebby came to us from West Virginia in April of 2025 to take over Charlie's job of guarding the chickens. When Sebby arrived, we learned that he was very fearful of people. We are gently working on familiarizing him with people. He loves other dogs. He barks a lot, and since he has come here he has gained some weight and found his voice. He loves to play with Kirby. We don't know his favorite farm food yet because he won’t let us feed him by hand, but he is coming around. He loves winter. We think in 2026 he is really gonna shine.

Addy aka “Puds”

Addy lived and worked on Zephyr Farm from 2011 until she passed away in January of 2026. She was rescued from a harder life in Tennessee. Her main jobs on the farm included catching voles, moles, mice, and even an occasional groundhog. She loved being part of the team and was never far away, often lounging in her dirt hole to keep cool with all that fur. Her favorite farm products were red peppers which she either nudged you to pick for her or she’d pick it herself. She also loved snap peas and raw eggs. She’d eat as many eggs as she could and hide the rest for later. In the off season she loved to play in the snow, bother Charlie, keep Kirby in line, and go hiking.

Charlie lived and worked on Zephyr Farm from 2013 until he passed away in November of 2024. A livestock guardian dog (LGD), his main job was to protect our flock of chickens from predators including foxes, coyotes, and hawks (he struggled with the hawks). He loved a good belly rub and chasing any one one dared to pass by the farm. His favorite farm products were eggs and the occasional chicken. He didn’t really have an off season. Even when it looked like Charlie was fast asleep, he was always guarding the farm.
